My name is Scott Spearin and I am The Tech Tutor. The first ever personal owners manual tailor-made for you.
I am a Florida native, 35 yr old father of 3 amazing children. I've worked for AT&T for many years, spectrum for a few years, and other technical customer service jobs. In my career I amassed many skills with Apple, Samsung, and all the other major brands. I realized that I wasn't the best salesmen, but I WAS the best employee. For all the normal reasons, punctual, dependable, respectful, but all I really wanted to do was help people. That was my knack! Exceptional customer service and really putting the customers needs first. When you treat everyone like family there is no bad business, no one feeling like they've been taken advantage of. That mentality suited me for years until I started to see a scary pattern and one day I was hit by a lightning bolt of an idea.
The days turned into years working for the companies and selling whatever their flavor of the month was with minimal effort on sales because it never really motivated me. Its not that I'm not motivated by money, it was a reputation aspect. I never wanted to come off like a used car salesmen, or shyster. I cared most about rapport and true facilitation of peoples needs. I realized overtime that the companies stopped caring about their customers and employees. Everyone and everything is just a number to them, and everything is production and profits. Its a business, I completely understand, but why does amazon think we need 12 Alexa's'. Or try and sell everything under the sun to a 70 yr old man who has a flip phone. The reps are not trained anymore in customer service or the devices they sell, they only SELL.
One day while working at Spectrum I noticed a nice older lady that had recently purchased her first smartphone coming in almost daily with questions about her phone. She talked to all of the reps a couple times over the course of a week or so trying to get enough confidence in her abilities and her purchase. It was obvious to her the reps were not really thrilled about helping her and she was quickly becoming defeated. The day I got lucky enough to talk to her she was deflated and sad, on the verge of giving up. She came to me and said she didn't want to burden me with her problems, she'd said she just wanted to pay her bill and get out of our hair. Surprise, her phone rings in her purse and she panics. She has a full blown panic attack in front of me, her thoughts being am I going to make it to the phone in time, if I get there can I swipe it correctly to answer it, is this thing going to even work for me. Watching this display of emotions I said to myself this is horrible. This cant be the norm for people, but the more I scrutinized the issue the more problems I saw. I came home with an idea and a dream to truly change things with compassion and positivity. I Googled smartphone tutor and found nothing. I thought this was impossible, until I realized real help is not available because nobody cares anymore.
What I'm undertaking is a monumental feat. Restoring the faith in people and conveying true help is very difficult. Everyone has been being taken advantage of for so long i understand why there's no trust. Going into a cellphone store or a cable store are universally deemed a terrible place for the obvious reasons. High pressure, no pleasure shark infested environment. Almost avoided at all cost. Everything nowadays is call customer service, call tech support and its really wait at least 30 minutes on hold and get Bangladesh. Its a game, a joke that we all just have to play along. I want to change this narrative. There's far too many words that describe a collective of people; an mob, a militia, a gang and so on that are negative. Why are there far less positive group descriptions? I think they don't want us educated or collected because we could be "dangerous". The last time we had an educated collective democracy was introduced, the constitution was signed. Think about it. The bar is so low and there is no one to trust without a hidden agenda. My dream is to band everyone, all of these companies customers that they have mistreated and taken advantage of for years. We all stand on each others shoulders and become taller than them and tell them that we refuse to be their pawns and lab rats. I'm currently trying to get everyone to a base education level on their communication device so we can all equally be a part of the community. There are still too many people offline and out of the loop and hiding behind the "I'm not tech savvy" wall. I put my heart and soul into this everyday and want to document this journey because I know its powerful and necessary. Life isn't scripted and neither will this. I am organic and everyone learns different lets figure out the best way to solve this universal problem.
